Miljøarbeider / Student Support Assistant – 70–80% Position

Bodø International School is seeking a Miljøarbeider/Student Support Assistant for a 70–80 % position.

The role will primarily involve supporting children with diverse needs during the school day, both in lessons and during breaks. As a Student Support Assistant, you will be an important part of the team supporting the students and help create a safe, predictable, and inclusive school environment.

We are looking for someone who wants to contribute to a safe and supportive school day for children, and who finds meaning in making a difference for students who need structure, encouragement, and accommodations throughout their school day.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is confident, clear, and warm in their role as an adult
  • Has good conflict-management skills
  • Enjoys physical activity and an active workday
  • Is flexible, solution-oriented, and takes initiative
  • Enjoys both independent work and collaboration with others
  • Is comfortable communicating in both Norwegian and English, orally and in writing

It is an advantage if you:

  • Have relevant education, for example as a child and youth care worker, or other education within health or education
  • Have experience working with children, schools, after-school programmes, or similar
  • Have natural authority and confidence when working with children who need clear adult guidance
  • Are curious and motivated to learn new things

Personal qualities will be given significant consideration.

Work responsibilities:

  • Contribute to safety, structure, and predictability in the school day
  • Support students in regular classroom instruction
  • Provide guidance and support in social interaction and play
  • Facilitate alternative or adapted activities indoors and outdoors when needed
  • Handle challenging situations in a calm, clear, and safe manner
  • Contribute actively and positively to the class environment

About the School
Bodø International School is a small, newly established international school with students from Grades 1 to 6. The school has four staff members and is located in Building 3 at Mørkvedmarka School. We are a candidate school for the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) and work within an international curriculum and framework where inquiry-based learning and international mindedness are central.

We emphasise a warm, inclusive, and values-based learning environment where curiosity, mutual respect, and critical thinking form the foundation for students’ development.

Teaching and communication at the school are primarily conducted in English, and staff members must be proficient in both spoken and written English.
